'Heart of Darkness' is a 5 piece band which combines the jazz approach of improvisation with through-composed structures set to an Alternative Rock framework. Each piece is a multi-movement work with written elements weaving together improvised solos, thus avoiding some of the cliche's of typical 'Melody, Solo, Solo, Solo Melody' forms used in Traditional Jazz. The music has been described as 'Aurally Cinematic' because each piece unfolds with a distinct beginning, middle and end and has a real story-like element to it. The group also focuses on examining the extremes of sensitive introspective moments juxtaposed with wild 'rock-out' hooks.
