————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
Hard bop is a subgenre of jazz that is an extension of bebop (or "bop") music. Journalists and record companies began using the term in the mid-1950s to describe a new current within jazz which incorporated influences from rhythm and blues, gospel music, and blues, especially in saxophone and piano playing. One of the most famous of the Hard Bop era is jazz pianist and composer Horace Silver. Rich Willey and His All Star Group will present the music of Hard Bop legend Horace Silver.
Rich Willey, trumpet, Walt Kross - tenor & alto saxophone, Alex Taub - piano, Zack Page - bass, Evan Martin - drums
Bandleader, drummer, vocalist and Isis regular Russ Wilson calls Rich Willey “a damn fine musician…an excellent trumpet player with great chops, great ideas, excellent reading skills and amazing dexterity on both trumpet and bass trumpet. His singing is not too shabby either. He’s everybody’s pal!” (Rapid River Magazine). |
