Hi,
Can someone tell me: if I have a Parke 650-280-24 and I want a 24 Merkelo backbore, which one should I order? Should this be 280-24 (M) or do I want what is marked 250-24 (orchestral), or something else? Sorry this system is a little confusing but I would like one of these mouthpieces. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure that would be the Orchestral 250-24 now. That nomenclature is now very confusing--they've got 250 size backbores in "Hagstrom", "M" and "Orchestral" and nothing on the site explaining the difference in feel and sound quality between them.
Jeff or Dianne, if you're reading this, it wouldn't be a bad idea....
I'm trying one of the Orchestral ones at the moment and it's feeling pretty good....

Dan is right. "Merkelo" is now "Orchestral." I've never tried the "M" but the "Hagstrom" is slightly smaller than the "Orchestral." Diane told me both are smaller than a Bach factory 24 backbore.

I recently received an email from Dianne Parke and thought I would bring this thread back. There's also a comparison chart but I can't get it to copy. The 250 is equivalent to a Warburton 8 and the 255 is equal to the Bach 24. The 240 is similar to the Bach 10.

Here's part of her email:

The Merkelo (Orchestral) backbore that you have has an overall measurement of 250. It falls in between the Bach 3 and the Bach 24 backbore. The following backbores are smaller than the Merkelo:

Parke 248-24 Trumpet Backbore M (medium)

Parke 248-24 Trumpet Backbore Hagstrom

Parke 241-24 Trumpet Backbore Henly

Parke 216-24 Trumpet Backbore C (commercial)

The first number is the overall size. The second number is the throat size.

Hope that helps. I think Parke mouthpieces are superb.
