Those valves are scary! I used to have the trumpet version, yes they do have a fine "touch", look like they were made in a radio tinkerer's shop, fine wire soldered here and there. I was afraid to clean them! Neat looking horns, that Besson looks like a Mendez, or vice versa?
Thanks for sharing.

DIAGONAL braces in the up/down plane, andfrom the leadpipe to the 3rd valve slide.whereelsehaveyoueverseenthat?? Aggressive styling. Do you notice any effect (dampening or focus or intonation on the D/C#,etc) from those solid-looking stabilizers?

Plus check out that tight curlicue at the aft end. Makes for a compact length & is eye-catching in itsownright. Tuneable to boot? If so, even sweeter.

Wow! What a cool old cornet - I've never seen one like it. Very interesting features...

Two new pics - the first, a nice shot of my '60 Conn Victor 6B. Second, a detail shot of my '62 Conn Victor 7A.

Sweet. There is just something extra gorgeous about copper... sorta makes them the "redheads" of the trumpet world, I guess.

Haha... you keep throwing that 7A term out there enough, and there will be all sorts of crazy viral propagation of internet-worthy false information to the point everyone will want one, and you can sell your extremely prized and rare one for $1M! If I were a certain loyalist, I just might add an extra page to my site for half the take.

Yes, I like copper (and rose brass), too - especially on a horn with a nice mix of brass and nickel. If I call the cornet a 7A enough, it will become one...sort of like counterfeiting a work of art, right? Probably just as confusing if I call it a 5A, 'cause it won't fit the picture if someone looks it up on a certain site...

I will start off with my Martin Committee large bore deluxe which arrived today from it's full restoration. After much soul searching I decided to leave it in raw brass.

Now, be sure to post a pic of that thing in a year....if it's raw brass, no lacquer, I wanna see its patina.

First off, thanks for the "accolades" regarding the Onyx and 10-10, fellas. Secondly, it wouldn't surprise me if the Besson 10-10 inspired the Olds recording. Besson horns seem to have inspired a facsimile or two.

And third... the newest toy. A York Master Feathertouch cornet. Given their uniqueness and rarity, I hope folks will pardon my devoting a few shots to the same horn. The "Feathertouch" is *very* aptly named. The valves feel weightless and snap back in a hurry (despite oxidized crud in two of the valve casings that will get cleaned properly some day). I can post pics of the unique valve design if folks like.

Some interesting tidbits about this "cornet":
* Serial number is individually stamped on each valve stem, as are numbers 1, 2, and 3 (depending on which valve you look at). And yes, I have an all-matching original set, apparently
* Leadpipe is tapered, and that's it. I don't have micrometers, but being able to stick any slide tube into any other says to me it is cylindrical throughout. Main tuning slide has same diameter on both tubes (and same as other valve slide tubes). I don't have micrometers, but it is roughly a 0.47 bore.
* As you can guess, sound is like a long cornet, though I can get decent cornet tone with my Yammie 9E.
* This horn came with a (stuck in it and probably original to it) York AL-TRU 2S mpc. I am guessing "2" is size between a 1.5 and 3 rim, and S is for SHALLOW. The AL-TRU delivers a fat sound, yet I can "darken" it up with chops and sound concept pretty well. The rim is very thick and comfy. The 2S mpc emphasizes in my mind that this "cornet" was built in the day when trumpets began to take over and was meant to compete with those loudmouths.
* Assuming "rose brass" and "yellow brass" are named for their color, this has a yellow brace leadpipe, rose brass bell (with nickel Krantz ring, or course), yellow brass crooks, and solid nickel (not nickel plated) straight tubing on slides. I have found other descriptions confirming the yellow brass leadpipe and rose brass bell. Mpc receiver is nickel-plated brass though (not solid nickel). All of the ferrules are brass (some look rosey, some look yellow... not sure if mixture of materials or different patination) *except* the ferrule at bell tail... that one is nickel.
* Stylin' dodecagonal valve caps (both ends), buttons, casings, and (hexagonal) pull knobs (with MOP inlays!).
* A totally playable object d'art!
*Also came with original (I believe) form-fitting case that, amazingly, DOESN'T SMELL LIKE MILDEW!

Yeah, yeah... shut-up and show us the pics! Okay... twist my arm!

It looks like you could take it into battle....Very solid looking instrument!

No, I think that angled brace is on one of his other "light" horns, but the VR has that straight vertical brace.

BTW, great looking horn, I prefer that finish over the silver / gold.

OOoh! I love how the tuning slide and the third valve slide have been switched places. By the way, I am sitting here in anticipation for my new Bach Chicago C to arrive...any minute now! I will post pictures when I get it.
