For those who didn't get to see my latest horn addition. A 47 Conn 80A modified by Metzler with a rimless copper bell and some unique bracing. Engraving by Artistic Engraving. I call her Coppertone!
She plays with a very sweet, mellow tone. _________________ Playing again after 33 years,

My newest acquisition. Easily the best flugel on the market IMHO. I apologize for the crappy picture. Eventually I will have a nice camera and proper lighting. Until then you get a Canon point and shoot and a coffee table.

Just picked up a 1947 Buescher Custom Built Model 265. It is very clean, nearly a time-capsule, and has the original leather covered case, mouthpiece, packing list, lacquer disclaimer, an H&B Clear Tone mute, and an oil promo. An added bonus is an approx 1956 Olds Ambassador in playable, but not very pretty, condition.
After a bath and fresh slide grease and Berp-bio Oil, this horn plays very nicely, with an even well-in-tune scale from bottom to top. With a Stork 4A or a Wick 5 it has a nice dark tone, and with the Duo-cup 99-D it brightens and plays above the staff easily. It blows a bit tighter than the wide-open horns I am used to, but that means I have to back off which is a good idea anyway as both teachers tell me I overblow. It becomes the first Buescher in my small collection, and is a keeper/player.
It is a Bb/A cornet, and the rear tuning slide pulls to a stop for A, with scribed lines on the three valve slides to adjust them to that key. The 3rd slide works easily but isn't needed much for the kind of playing I do (read: out of tune. ) The lacguer has a nice golden color, and there are a few pinkish spots here and there, but the interior is as smooth and shiny as a new horn.
I will go with me tomorrow eve for a workout with my trio friends. Thanks to VetWsychWars for hooking me up with its previous owner.
