|
Chicago-area players, mark your calendars!
VetPsychWars and Jhatpro are officially announcing that their Annual Mid-Winter Trumpet Hang has been set for Sunday, January 16, 1-5 PM, at the home Jhatpro shares with his long-suffering wife in Glen Ellyn, IL, just West of Chicago. (She's fleeing to Florida for the weekend!)
As last year, the beverages (and chips and homemade salsa from VPW) are on us. All you need to do is bring your horn(s) and mouthpiece(s). Any and all trumpet players who can make it are invited.
If you're new to this, our hang is an opportunity to talk trumpet and see and try and bunch of different horns. Last year we had 50-some models and, as a result, a lot of people got to try custom horns they've only read about.
We hope to have some vendors on hand as well. Last year Dr. Valve attended with some of his horns, and the Chicago-area Warburton rep was here with a full kit of tops and bottoms.
If you'd like to attend, PM me (jhatpro) with details on what horn(s) you'll bring so I can keep a list going on this thread. I'll reply with the Glen Ellyn address (and a phone number) so you can MapQuest your way to the front door. We're just off I-355 and easy to find.
See you in January! _________________ Jim Hatfield

I'll have the Lightweight 400 and red Aristocrat trumpet, plus my 400 cornet. The standard 400 may be back from valve rebuild by then, but maybe not. We'll see.
I'll also bring some interesting mouthpieces, for example, various models of Rudy Muck.
and salsa

I just thought of a real cool horn I wish I could bring. But I think I have it stored at my Mom's house down in Georgia.
It's a totally restored 1947 French Besson Meha that was owned and played for years by Johnny Zell, the trumpet soloist for the Lawrence Welk show.
Actually, I just checked my trumpet closet, and down at the bottom of the stack of cases, I think I recognize its case. And even if that's not it, I think I'm traveling down to Georgia for part of the Holidays, so I could retrieve it then.
And VPW: Salsa's fine. But please, no rap. |

Excellent! I'm already getting RSVP's. Besides my TH friends I'm inviting players from four different local bands. We may have to throw up a tent to handle overflow!
And here's great news: Tom Green may be able to drive up from Elkhart. It'll be fun to meet him and tell him personally how much I like the job he did refinishing my Holton Llewellyn and Paris LeBlanc large bore. _________________ Jim Hatfield

Tom.
I'd love to. Just giving the Chicago guys a blast on the local delicacies. I'll probably be in Taos when the festivities occur but have a Manhattan for me.

Hey, it just occurred to me (earlier today) that I've been saying how nice these Humes and Berg mutes are that you guys have never tried.
I'll bring them along so you can try. Seems to me that I would like to hear some of your mutes as well. What do you all think?
