Monette 149XL and 2000LT

I used to play on a 973 monette, and got rid of it because the sound was too big to fit in with others using conventional equipment. Anyone who has played the 149XL or 2000LT could you compare them for me and tell me what you think of them... do they fit in well with other conventional equip?

I play a Chicago Monette C trumpet, which is the the old version of the lightweight horns. I have no trouble blending with Bachs or Yamahas, and they play very well!

do you fell like you can make most colors of sound (bright to dark)? Does it slot considerably better than conventional horns? I don't want to invest in a horn like that if it isn't markedly better that is all.

I played a 149xl for 4 years and I did find it hard to blend with in sections. The 149xl is still relatively heavy, so in a section of standard horns, it can be difficult to blend and hear yourself on the monette. I think it is really a soloist horn. I also found the sound got very airy when you played quiet. The 149xl is a great horn, but it is still different to the sound of a bach etc.

I've always wondered what the 149XL played like - guess I know now. Anyways, dave, you might want to try a Monette XLT, it's the lightest horn and probably is the easiest to blend in with conventional horns.
