I've been trying to figure out which horns Kanstul have made for other companies. I know that they made some horns for Besson, but to be honest, I can't make heads or tails of Besson's model lines, and the fact that they are owned by Boosey & Hawkes doesn't help at all. Is there a concise list of the horns Kanstul has made for other brands (and can therefore be considered to equal current Kanstul quality)? Please help!

From the research I've done, there are a few models I'm pretty sure about - F. (for French, I assume) Besson Brevete (sometimes with two "t's"), and apparently some Bessons with virtually no markings other than "F. Besson" on the bell and "Made in the USA" on the valve casing. Is this reasonably accurate? I'm lost as to how to identify these horns though except for by being told that they were made by Kanstul. Is there serial number lists that will tell you which #s were made by Kanstul, etc? Are there other brands that Kanstul has produced horns for? (and don't say Z**S)
Any input would be appreciated...

Hi,
OK I'll start the ball rolling..I'm sure there will be corrections.
For Boosey and Hawkes Kanstul made both Besson Brevettes and Mehas, French Besson models 90 series BB (and BA), Marvin Stamm models (sometimes referred to as 160) and Najoom Classics (also referred to as 260). I have seen some with 'Kanstul' in a little circle on the valve casing..some just have 'Made in USA'. I contacted Booseys about serial numbers and they told me that they didn't record them, Kanstul however may have.
As far as I'm aware Kanstul have also made horns for Flip Oakes (Wild Thing) and Callet which have subsequently been worked on by both those luminaries before us mortals get our hands on them.
Kanstul have also made their own range of 'Burbank' horns, inspired by the great Benges. Of course this doesn't include the student horns, flugels, piccs, Ds............
Such a great horn maker!! Where would we be without him?
Regards

You can add the Besson "International", silver plated, destined for the N. A. market (I think they also were produced somewhere in Europe for "across the pond"). Also known as the BE 800. And "Yes, with a serial number the Kanstul factory can check and confirm whether or not they made the horn in question". (and still provide parts for it!) |

Short list: Besson, Max, Burbank (none still being made)
Callet, Wild Thing
Scodwell is made from Kanstul parts, but Scodwell puts them together.
I have a feeling I am leaving something out. If so, maybe somebody else will remember it.

I think I have seen posts stating that the Zues is made by Kanstul but I am not sure.
