I'm just interested to know how the transaction went and how you protected yourself from fraud.

I purchased a Getzen Capri flugelhorn from a Marketplace seller. Horn was exactly as advertised and I was completely satisfied with the entire transaction. I would really not hesitate to purchase another instrument or other item from a Markatplace ad, though I would definitely try to communicate with the seller first (email or phone) an maybe even visit an eBay feedback site, it that were offered up.

As far a protection from fraud, I simply pay for my horns with cash freshly printed in my basement!

I bought my Wild Thing cornet through the Marketplace and had absolutely no problems at all. The seller was in London and I'm in Sydney - the internet is a wonderful thing isn't it!!

Hi
I've done three trades on the marketplace and all have worked well. I'm in the UK and one was with Danny Stone in London, one with a chap called Mark Heuer in California and another with a chap in Texas (I'm sorry I've forgotten your name just now). All worked well - thanks fellas.

I bought two or three horns, and I bought and sold probably dozens of mouthpieces via the marketplace.
Since I live in Europe, I simply have to trust the person I am dealing with.

And I have never been disappointed!

(ok, once, when someone who doesn´t seem to be a regular here sold me a Bach 2C Megatone "in very good condition" which in fact was scratched, dented, with various plier marks and a sawed-off shank. Are you there, Elias?)

To all others: Thanks for all those pleasant transactions! I really appreciate it.

BTW, have you noticed my ads in the marketplace?

I have not bought anything from the marketplace, but from what I have heard about it I would trust it much more than I would ebay. We are a much smaller community than ebay.

Word tends to travel very fast on TH if something is amiss. I think you can feel comfortable with the marketplace.

Regards,
Phil

I bought a mouthpiece and a WT trumpet off marketplace. Both transactions were of mutual trust with no protection. Both sellers shipped before receiving funds, and both were perfect transactions.

I have bought two items off the marketplace, and both were exactly as advertised. As was stated before, this is a smaller community, and I trust the smaller sales areas more than ebay.

I bought a C trumpet and flugel from the marketplace (from the same person). I am very pleased with them and they were exactactly as descibed in the ad and email correspondance. I must admit at first I was a bit uneasy as the seller was canadian and I was told at the post office that I could not insure or track the cashiers check that I sent. None the less every thing worked out great. I also agree that I trust TH more than ebay when it comes to big purchases. Most trumpet players that have a good horn that they are not in need of really want to see someone get it that will use it and appreciate it rather have it collect dust. Most of them are not trying to sell a restored Mt. vernon for 3 or 4 thousand dollars. Although Im sure some of the mt vernons are great horns I would never buy one for that much without seeing it first. Just my opinion.

I bought my Yamaha Xeno 8445GS C trumpet through the Marketplace and had no problems whatsoever. I mailed a money order to the seller for the agreed upon sale price and the horn arrived very quickly and in great, virtually pristine, shape. I have no regrets.

In contrast, I recently bought a 1950 Olds Super off Ebay and several promised shipping dates came and went before the seller finally mailed the horn to me. While I finally received the horn, the transaction left a bit to be desired.

If another intriguing horn appears on the Marketplace at a reasonable asking price, I would definitely consider making an offer.

I listed some horns for sell on eBay, but I placed notices and links in the marketplace. A few of you (TH's) contacted me with questions about the horns. I found it to be a promotional tool.

I've been screwed enough on eBay that I don't bother with that any more. I'm sellin' mouthpieces, trading cases... I won't buy a horn though. I've learned that, no matter how trustworthy the seller, you just never really know what you're going to get. Trying before I buy is now an absolute must... But if I WERE to buy a horn without trying first, I'd have no qualms about the Marketplace.
