Can anyone recommend a multiple mute holder?
I mean, the kind that attaches to the music stand and makes getting the mute quick and easy.

This is the best available, IMHO:

www.horntrader.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=163&Category_Code=M93

Steve will also make a six-shooter (5 mutes plus the bag) for a few bucks more.

Ed and Tim, thank you.
Wow, looks great, and with recommendations from pros like you, it's tempting. However, I'm not sure:
1. Price and that's before adding the overseas shipping cost. He may ship US only. I won't ask until I decide yes or no.
2. Not sure if this would clamp on to the flimsy metal music stands we use in our band.

If the stand is too flimsy for the mute rack, there's probably not a chance it would hold the mutes either. Another option for this particular one is clamping it to your chair.

I love mine and believe they are well worth the price of admission. Take advantage of our weak dollar and buy it already!

The Jo-Ral mute holder works ok for three mutes and will clamp to a portable stand, if you can find one closeby.

When I played in a big band with the traditional big band box type stands, I used a Hamilton trumpet stand and clamped my mute holder on to it, and it worked great! I am sure Steve would ship to you in Israel, if not, I can sell you mine.

Depends on the gig situation. If it's a one-shot gig and I need to keep it lite, I use the old LaVoz/Manhasset mute holder for cup & straight. Doesn't work well on harmon:

http://www.amazon.com/Manhasset-1320-Trumpet-Mute-Holder/dp/B0002F7F9W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1323898025&sr=8-1

This looks promising, but I've never tried it:

http://www.amazon.com/Hercules-HA100-Mute-Holder/dp/B005I7JDBW/ref=sr_1_1?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1323897945&sr=1-1

If it's a long run gig, I'll use a percussion toy tray like:

http://www.amazon.com/Latin-Percussion-LP761-Performance-Tray/dp/B000RMH34C/ref=sr_1_2?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1323898129&sr=1-2

It's heavy and a pain to carry, so I only use it for long runs, and keep it at the theatre. I'll do that same with my old, heavy Hamilton trumpet stands. Just leave them at the theater until the run is over.

Does anyone here have actual experience with the Hercules HA100 mute holder? Does it work, hold up, etc.? Pros and cons? Thanks.

I would never recommend using a mute holder on a flimsy folding music stand. Those stands are easy enough to knock over as they are. Adding holders/mutes just makes it easier to knock over. If anything I'd go with an individual mute holder. I do a lot of musical theater and am in the habit of choreographing the mute changes so one holder is sufficient from most gigs. Far better would be to buy a heavy folding music stand that will accomodate one of the mute racks already mentioned.

if you decide on the Manhassett single-mute holders, spend a couple of extra dollars and get the one for trombone. the extra angle adjustment of that holder makes it worth the extra cost.

The one that sells on Horntrader looks good but $60+ is really steep!

The Manhassett trumpet mute-holder got 2 lukewarm reviews on Amazon.
The price for the Trombone one on ebay isn't bad - $21 including shipping.
I'll think about it. Thanks.

Totally agree that the trombone version works better for most trumpet mutes. My only gripe is that it doesn't always stay well attached to thin metal music stands.

I've been using this Trumpeter’s Silent Mute Tray for a couple years now, and I absolutely love it.

I've tried the others and they are nowhere near as good as this is.

Now, I only use it for cup, straight, plunger and harmon. If I need to use a bucket I am able to use it with my plunger hanging on the corner of my stand.

Here's the actual page for ordering.

When I got it I paid less than he's asking now . . . c'est la vie!
