have used YTR2021 serial 936611A made in Japan. Brass/gold color. Been played by pro musicians. Plays great, great tone. only issue is the looks have normal wear from use by 1st trumpet high school player. Played/tested out by my teacher Ed Beard, who was 2nd trumpet for Quincy Jones, and also played with Ray Charles. Bought used. I had it refurbished, cleaned by instrument tech at a music store. Value? Music shop will probably use as rental or sell. If relacqueres
Need to sell to pay for my oral surgery this week? What should I accept from a music shop, pawn shop. Music shop says 150... did not try to negotiate yet, but i think 185 at least but I may be wrong, even way wrong. Will send a pic. Has original case, muthpiece and nice maintenace kit.
Any ideas on value... wont hold you responsible for off answers just trying to get an idea on pricing for a quick sale. Surgery is Tuesday. |

so, I'm pretty sure you aren't supposed to post sales. This is a discussion thread. _________________ Stomvi VRII Lightweight in Silver

Hi Houndhorn,
I'm not quite sure what instrument you're trying to sell?
The title of this post states a YTR-2031, the body of the post states a YTR-2021, and it appears you have submitted the horns serial to the YamahaSerial Database as a YTR-2320?
As a rule of thumb though, ANY of these student model Yamaha trumpets typically sell anywhere from $100 to $500 depending on condition.
At this end of the market the condition of the finish is everything. Think about potential customers... parents buying "nice" looking trumpets for their children.
It doesn't matter "who" has "play tested" the trumpet. MANY trumpets have been "play tested" by great players.
hope that helps.
Cheers |

dont assume, im am not selling this on the forum... I have one buyer already, the local music shop offered me 150 on the spot. just wondering if I should ask for a bit more.
It is a YTR2031 (reedited this number) . serial number 036611A (redited this number) japan made
I had a tech clean and gave it new cork, a nice bath and such.
just scratches and wear. plays great.
not selling here, just trying to figure out should I negotiate for more, check out other stores for a better offer (Im doing a bit of that today)
surgery is tomorrow. Will probably try asking music store for 180 for it and hope to end up 175... its probably worth more and I could get more on marketplace, but I am in need of money now for now.
I need tips on selling it fast, At 150 I break even , or maybe a bit of profit. It has the original mouth piece with it. Mouth piece has wear but no uncomfortable spots.

Well I'm perplexed.
There is definately no Yamaha model trumpet YTR-2021.
As far as the serial goes the "A" indicates that it was made (assembled) in the American "Grand Rapids" factory. But this plant closed in 2004 and a serial of 936XXX dates after this completely.
All I can assume is that this trumpet is a Chinese copy of a Yamaha. A "Yama." that is often seen in eBay? |

will take another look...
its hard to under magnifying light.read because of wear,,, so will recheck it. I bought it used years ago for 65, took to instrument tech who put corks on it and cleaned it an such.
mouth piece is also marked japan, case also.
I have pics, cant figure out how to send it to the thread.[/img] |

used zoom on my camera and know the number i believe. BTW thank you to all on this thread. I wouldn't have done a second closer look and caught this error.
OK... here is the numbers upon closer exam..
YTR-2320 JAPAN
SERIAL NUMBER WAS ALSO WRONG
after zooming in on it..
looks like 036611A
Question ... might that A mean Armstrong as in Louis, or Anniversary? Just curious.
It has enough scratches and wear that it probably should be considered good. I will say it sounded about as nice as my instructers vintage Bach Trumpet. His trumpet would be an excellent imo.
Thanks again for the input... I m selling it today. Have to. Surgery is in the am.
BTW how can we go back and edit the info in that trumpet survey? To reflect this new number and made in Japan? |

Consider your data changed on the database.
See my post above, the "A" simply indicates that this trumpet was "assembled" in the U.S. at Yamaha's Grand Rapids factory. No "Anniversary" or "Armstrong" connections sadly.
Being a 4 digit model number dates it after 1982.
Current info suggests the YTR-2320 was produced between 1987 and 1998.
Ive been over a lot of ebay sales I've tracked and with and scratches this horn would reach anywhere between 100-300 depending on condition. The later 2335's attract a slightly higher premium going up to about 450-500.
Hope that helps |

Just talked with second music store... and they said it would make a good rental but they have a large rental inventory. Gal told me the 150 would be a good offer for it so Im going to run down now to that first store and sell it for 150. seems fair enough, I didnt lose money on it, pretty much broke even and had a free pretty decent trumpet to learn on.
However for curiousity sake, would love to learn about age of this student model. Previous owner used as band instrument, 1st trumpet in a large high school. I would keep it if I didnt have serious dental issues that would limit playing for me for the longterm. And that oral surgery tomorrow. You have a great forum here. Keep on jamming. Thanks again.
