Does anyone know where I can find out what year a Martin Committee was made and the bore size? |

What if there are no numbers or letters stamped on the horn besides the serial number? |

Another very knowledgeable connaisseur of vintage horns (Paul Ayick aka bulos) posted that to get the year of manufacture of a Martin trumpet, you divide the serial number by 4000 and add 1906.
A large bore Committee is usually marked "3" next to the serial # on the valve casing ("L" on later models). The more popular medium bore ("2") is usually not stamped. _________________ All the best

I have read that but the serial number I have in the second valve is not listed, hence me asking. Unless I have missed it? |

Your serial number falls between 218855 (serial number of the first horn produced in 1963) and 700000 (serial number of the first horn produced in 1964); therefore, your horn was produced sometime in 1963. _________________ "He that plays the King shall be welcome . . . Even if a slze is stamped on the valve block, I would measure the bore myself, just out of curiosity. It could have a step-bore. My Committee has the serial no. 151,xxx on the valve block with no indication of bore size. It was made in 1946 per the chart. The bore measures 0.430" at the exit of the leadpipe, entering the tuning slide and 0.445" at the exit of the tuning slide and at the 2nd valve slide. _________________ Kanstul FB Classic b-flat&C

Actually, since per the chart the lowest serial produced in 1946 was 154289, your horn was likely produced in 1945.
You make a good point about the actual measured bore size versus markings on the horn, although the inquiry about bore size was posted by isler in 2004. (Big Horn revived this 'zombie' thread to ask about the manufacture date of his horn and a number on his leadpipe.)
Do you have any information about the possible meaning of a number stamped on a Committee leadpipe? _________________ "He that plays the King shall be welcome . . . " (Hamlet Act II, Scene 2, Line 1416)

Thanks for the information on how to read the serial number chart. So I have a 1945 Committee. Found it at a local estate sale a couple of months ago. It was in original condition, almost flawless lacquer, no dents, beautiful valves, (nice compression with Hetman no. 2 oil), original case, Martin no. 8 mouthpiece. Don't know anything about misc numbers on a leadpipe.
Do you have any information about the possible meaning of a number stamped on a Committee leadpipe? |
