So I am playing the first part to Howard Hansons symphony #2 and am curious as to the general consensus as to how difficult it is. _________________ Zues cornet

I've played the piece and I found the part to be quite challenging, but everyone has their own problems... _________________ Bach 229/ OB 109

Great piece! I played it a couple of times back in college.
One nice thing is that it's got good parts all around, if I remember. The principal part is a bit taxing, perhaps. It's been quite a few years, so I can't remember precisely. _________________ LA Benge 3X Bb Trumpet

It depends on what you mean by hard.
The final movement can be a bit of an endurance challenge.
The horns have it way rougher than we do on this one. _________________ Louie Eckhardt, MM

I played it on Eb last time around, which seemed to make it more manageable. _________________ Cathy

| I played this last year. It is quite taxing. You just have to force yourself to relax where you can (a contradiction, I know) so you can save what you need for the tough stuff. The high concert C's are brutal. However, it's a fantastic piece. Enjoy it! |

HA!
In college, our MD programmed this WITH American in Paris. The night of the concert, I came home to my neighbor's apartment on fire. They wouldn't let me (and the principal oboist, who lived on the other side) inside to get my trumpet and tuxedo.
We sneaked in the back door of the complex. It worked out. That was quite a night. _________________ Andrew Harms
