This came up the other day on my Facebook - a Casino Royale session featuring Derek Watkins, who would be 60-61 at the time:

Considering he's done every Bond movie, I imagine we can look forward to hearing him again at the end of this year at around 66.

Jim, I'm the 66 year old you're refering to. I was never a lead trumpet player and at my age I don't intend to blow my brains out to become one now. All I was looking for is maybe finding a teacher in my area to help me hold my own in a local community band. Thanks:

I don't think many people could become Derek Watkins if they start when they are in their 60's

So.. what could a comeback player in his mid 40's expect to be able to achieve.

Any great comeback player stars out there??

most people seem to get back to where they were with trumpet playing fairly quickly. After that it takes the same work and time committment to progress, and maybe a little more, that anyone has to do. Playing basketball is a great activity even if, after 40, you won't make the NBA. Take lessons, practice daily and see where it goes. If you don't do it now....when?
