I am a middle aged comeback player. In the 11 years since my comeback (20+ year break), I have had the privilege of working with some fantastic teachers. I have also received some excellent guidance from a few others.
When this lesson opportunity first came up, my thought was I'd get a few pointers about trumpet and lead playing from the top lead trumpet player of my generation. Well, it turns our Roger has been teaching trumpet nearly as long as he has been playing professionally, and the lesson far exceeded my expectations. In fact, it was a defining experience for me.
It is a two hour lesson, and Roger tailors each lesson to the needs of the student. He can pretty quickly assess where you are and then work on what you need. Roger gave me some exercises to improve my speed and dexterity, some techniques for playing at the correct volume level, a range exercise, breathing, and some other things. And yes, he helped me unlock range I didn't know I had.
Your lesson with Roger will probably be a little different, so there is no point of getting into details. His book, "Clinical Notes on Trumpet Playing" covers some of this. I highly recommend the book, and if you get the chance, take a lesson with Roger. _________________ Blaine

| I'm glad you had such a great experience. I did a clinic with Roger a few years ago, and I remember him being a great teacher. |

| Hey Blaine, that's great to hear you had that chance! What did he think of your Wedge? Your Harrelson? (I love the way Jason's designs play) |

Ditto.
Great teacher and a really chill guy.
Obviously has great insight/information on lead playing, but he had a really critical ear and great feedback on the "legit" side as well. Has a GREAT focus on fundamentals. |
