I played in a competition tonight with the band I'm in: first time in 30 years I played in something like that !
We lost and I know it's the taking part that counts, but one thing irked me.
The adjudicator remarked that the two trumpets, (of which I am one), didn't always play together.
It's a fair point, and I can hack the criticism, but I just didn't hear it that way, and if I don't hear any detached playing in terms of timing with one another, how am I meant to remedy it?
It made me come back home and practice all the harder, but I need to find a way of remedying this. _________________ Gordon |

From my limited experience, what I hear from my horn isn't always what is heard from in front of my horn.
What I did was to record my practice sessions. It might work for you and your band also.

Did the judge mean that the two trumpets didn't always play together which other, or perhaps the two trumpets didn't always play together with the rest of the ensemble? Also, record your group and listen for yourself to see if you can find what the judge was talking about. Also, is it possible that he was talking about attack style, volume level, dynamics, overall style interpretation, or how you end notes (one of my biggest peeves is about ending notes....everyone knows when they start, but few seem to know when to end them..together). Just a couple of thoughts.
