I've actually been using a Reeves S/69 underpart with a Bach 1-1/4C rim for awhile. It works great, but I think I'm going to have him (Bob) thread a Bach 3D underpart for my 1-1/4 rim and see how that works out. If I like it, I may have another one threaded and get it drilled out to a 117 backbore. I feel like the response feels more like my Bach 1-1/4C on the 3D, I just don't like the rim. And with my quintet and church gigs, I'm switching back and forth from pic to my bigger horns enough that I want the pieces I'm using to feel as much alike as possible.

Well, I guess I'm still (even after 2 years) trying to figure out why I ended up needing to go to a larger piece (a Bach 1-1/4C).

Larger pieces are more forgiving of excess tension.....they will still allow a good tone. Use too much rension with a small MP and it is immediately obvious.

Having said that, many guys just play better on larger pieces. As to why? If you are like me, you are constantly developing and improving as things are always changing...............

Christian, have you tried the Curry series with the 1 1/4 rim? Same rim, several different cups / backbores to choose.

Mouthpieceexpress.com ships to Greensboro in 1 night if you order in the morning, since they are right up the road.

Christian just Really likes "his" rim, that's all.

I know it seems almost counter intuitive. But trust me here. If you go for comfort/sound, regardless of size, shape or depth, you'll be much happier with your playing.

your playing will improve and you will see results almost immediately.

your no longer "fighting" or "forcing" your equipment. Your comfortable...

Amazing how much some of us have to look through before we find that ...

Haha... True... And I really do like the way Mark's pieces play (not to mention his amazing customer service!!!), but I just haven't been able to get acclimated to the rims. There's something about my 1-1/4 rim that just seems to fit me well (and I do mean my particular one... I've had to have it duplicated for my lead/pic piece, and other 1-1/4C's don't play the same for me).

Heh, you don't even wanna know the list of what all I went through to find what fits my face. Thing is, in College (1984) I had a Schilke 12 which was almost right for me, just a tad big. Teacher had me trade it for a Bach 3, which is probably the worst ID for me ...
