Hi.

I just ran across your post / query.

I have a couple large-bore Martin Indianas. They are NOT .479", I CAN tell you THAT.

Not sure exactly what the bore-size is, but I would have to wait until I return to my home.

I am away "on vacation" (Boston / New England).

BTW -- I have a couple rare SMALL-BORE Indianas, also.

My Indiana is a .453, the same as several Indiana cornets I own.

Never heard of a large bore trumpet larger than 0.472" although there may be a 0.474 out there somewhere. There are 0.485" cornets, like the famous Conn Circus bore, but I don't think any trumpets that big, esp. if you're talking vintage Indianas. It's my impression that large bore used to be 0.460-0.465" around the 50's and the 0.468 - 0.472" large bore horns mostly came later. As to 0.479" vintage trumpets, I don't think so.

Doubtless someone will correct me if I'm wrong . . . . .

When Dick Akright made the Mic Gillette model Martin Magna, he made 3 dozen with a .470 bore and the rest were large bore.

.484

Bill Ortiz had one.

Ver-r-r-y interesting! Was this the exception that proves the rule, or were you saying there were more, other large bore trumpet models over 0.472 - 0.474"?

I have got a Martin indiana large bore in my shop right now. It is a .468

In regards to larger trumpets, I also have an Evette and Schaeffer by Buffet that is a .476 bore. This horn was bought based on very poor pictures and the seller not knowing the brand. No big deal. Its an interesting horn none the less.

I know this is an older thread, but yesterday I purchased an RMC Martin Indiana with a bore size of .470.
