I have an opportunity to pick up what appears to be an
"Early" Conn Victor 6B(based off the pic from the Conn Loyalist site) from 1956 for a pretty good price. Just wondered if any of your Conn experts had could weigh in on it. Hopefully, I'll be able to check it out this afternoon, to see how good/bad of condition it is in.

I would play test and if you like it, buy it. I am a fan of the vintage conn horns.

It was a horn that was used by some jazz heavy weights back in the day. Lead players. They lean more to bright than dark for sure. I agree with the above... if you like it and it's in good original shape and it's reasonable... buy it.

I figured since the price was very low, I would go ahead and take a chance on it. Cosmetically, it's not very pretty. Lacquer appears to be gone in some spots but the valves seemed to be in ok condition despite not having been played in years. I'm giving it a bath now and will play it later to determine if it's worth putting additional money into it. I figure if I don't like it, I should be able to get back what I paid for it.

That is exactly what I would have done. Hope you enjoy the horn.

My 56 6B is a great horn with a very good tone. Not bright but not dark either. It is a good all purpose horn. It has a large bell which takes just a little getting used too. These are a small bore but play with little resistance, not as open as some horns but a nice fun horn to play.
