I just obtained a wonderful Getzen Bb cornet!
I have very little experience with Getzen instruments as I play Bach and Schilke for the most part.
I absolutely fell in love with this instrument.
Getzen Eterna "Copperna" Cornet G33315.
Custom horn. Fairly new cornet, mated to a new gold brass mouthpipe, and "new old stock" gold brass Eterna bell 1992 (old style valve stamping), then copper plated and clear lacquered (done by Metzler Brass Repair).
Regular style waterkeys (same part Getzen now uses ...I dislike the Amado style waterkeys).
One very cool looking Eterna cornet!
Very open feel and even with a deep "V" cornet mouthpiece notes above high C jump right out.
Deep, rich tone quality and very quick responsiveness. Plays in tune as well.

Pics as a proof, or it didn't happen
Seriously, any chance you could provide some drool material here? |

I do not know how to put pictures on the Trumpet Herald site.
If you could tell me (step by step) how to do so, I would love to do this.

| So wait, is it just the bell that was copper plated? Inside and out? |

Posting pictures:
- First, you need an external hosting site - like Photobucket - to actually host the pictures. Trumpet Herald (TH) won't host pictures for the forums. I've never posted on the marketplace, so I don't know about that.
- Second, after uploading a picture to a site, you only need the direct link to the picture - not any of the rest of the junk code that is often included.
Example: http://i784.photobucket.com/albums/yy126/mjf0757/YamahaCase.jpg
- Now you've got a link to the photo you want. TH will display the link and make it clickable. However, if you want the picture itself to appear, you need one more step.
- Take the link you got earlier, highlight it, and click on the "Img" button above the window where you're composing the post. It will put "" around your link and then TH will load the picture, not just the link. Presto!
""
- So your post should look something like that - without any of the quotation marks. I had to put them in so you could see the picture loading link, otherwise TH would just load my picture. _________________ LA Benge 3X Bb Trumpet

So this is a new Eterna, with an old Eterna bell? And a completely separate, non-Getzen leadpipe?
I bet the all copper makes it gorgeous! |

Interesting to note, you used "mouthpipe" in the OP ... and, now use "leadpipe".

In my mind these two terms are interchangeable.

That's the one with the interchangeable lead / mouth pipe, right?
Joking aside - gorgeous horn! And without being all soft and squishy like a fully copper horn. Jerome Callet's copper insulated Jazz used this idea, except it had silver plate over the copper. He said something about the copper plate having a specific affect on frequency projection, better than a copper bell ... I forget what that was, but some people loved it and I bet this horn also has that tonal property. |

The sound of the horn was what got me.
I have never been a Getzen player but this horn impressed me so much.
The looks of the horn was secondary (but still impressive.)
I am experimenting with various mouthpieces to get the right combination of cup style, throat and backbore that works best.
Main consideration is the sound.

| While I don't have the chops to play it, I have a hard time envisioning something to compete with Flip Oak's extreme idea for cornet sound; deep, open backbore, HUGE throat ... (I will be experimenting with that combo on an 18 throat soon though) |

Nice-looking.
I had a couple of the Getzen "Copra-Temp" horns; trumpet and cornet.
One was original (lacquered, and nr mint), and the other, I stripped what was left of the original lacquer (about 25%).
I came to prefer the 'raw' copper horn (lacquer removed), in appearance and sound-wise.
The various shades of patina of the 'raw' copper was stunning. Easy to control; from purple-ish green, to gleaming / shiney. Easy to polish, without using anything special.
Must say, that I am 'partial' to 'raw' copper appearance. I have a fine complement of French "Maviel" cookware.
