Hey,

Does your tongue come forward into KTM position before you place the mouthpiece?

If I put my tongue forward into a hiss position before placing the mouthpiece, It seems to set everything up and gives a really consistent and tongue-driven feel each time I play.

It's something I'm going to keep doing I think.

Hey there,

For me, as soon as i pick the trumpet up my tongue is naturally in that position and it remains that way through breathing in, putting the trumpet on my lips and the attack.

Hope this helps!

Matt

I've never really paid attention. But I'm pretty sure as I breath in my tongue is down and flat, and doesn't come up to whatever position it needs to be in until I am about to articulate the note.

But on the other hand, since my tongue tip naturally rests just behind my bottom front teeth (whether it is down flat or arched up and forward) I suppose the answer to your question is yes, my tongue is in the KTM position as it naturally is even when I am not playing. But I don't arch it (assuming I am about to play a note high enough to require some level of arching) until I am about to articulate the note.

Best wishes,

John Mohan
