I was just wondering if anyone practices the Variation II of Ten in the preliminary studies in Flexus. I find that particular one to be having a very good effect on my chops...I just started it last week, but am seeing more efficiency/range/endurance, etc... Just curious if anyone else uses it. All the best! _________________ Mouthpieces:

Yes. I've done both variations on most of the preliminary studies. I do find lots of benefit from variation 2 particularly. _________________ Bach trumpet artist-clinician

Thanks for the feedback guys. I think staying on the bend so long..combined with having the horn on the face so long, really centers the sound on each pitch...very cool! _________________ Mouthpieces:

Another variation is to go backwards, that is, start at the high C and go down to the low C. That's a whole different feeling.
Then, when you're ready for a new challenge, (this one is not for the faint of heart or the weak of chops LOL), start on the low C as written, go up to the high C as written, then, without removing the mouthpiece, go back down to the low C. You can also do this in reverse, starting on the high C, go down to the Low C and then back up to high C. If you can't do the entire exercise in both directions, simply do as much as you can.
Another idea is to expand the exercise. In other words, don't stop at the high C. Keep going. As you get above high C, the lip bends get increasingly difficult. Instead of trying to bend down a half step, just bend until the note is slightly flat, then bend back up again. When you can't bend the notes anymore, you can continue the exercise, just without the bends. _________________ Tom Barreca

THanks TOm, those look really good..I can bend up into the doubles pretty easily...maybe because the slots are so close together. Best, Lex _________________ Mouthpieces:
