How many trumpeters double on other instruments, specifically but not limited to woodwinds? I ask because I'm interested in if there are any living and/or deceased Jazz trumpeters who also double on flute.

The person who always comes to mind with this is Ira Sullivan. He's brilliant (even now, late in life) on all the saxes, flutes, trumpet, flugelhorn and a few other things.

I double on chromatic harmonica. I picked it up about 3 years ago, partly to give me a break during gigs when my trumpet chops were running out of steam.

Trumpet (Bb/C/Flugel/Picc/Cornet)
Piano/Synth
French horn
Electric Bass
Viola
Baritone
Voice
Boatswain's whistle (don't ask)
Kazoo
Guitar (only while drinking)

I have played trumpet, Horn, saxes and flute professionally. Additionallly, I have played baroque recorder, classical (period) flute, and Irish keyless flute and Irish whistles.

Kenny Dorham played excellent sax in addition to trumpet.
Ray Nance - violin in addition to trumpet.
Frank Wess, Basie tenor sax player, plays outstanding flute.

I also play guitar, it's an amazing instrument and like the trumpet, it's very versatile.

Michael Mossman , know for trumpet , plays a mean trombone.

My playing various instruments is NOT significant .

Upper-brass
Alto-Flute
Guitar (Spanish, Rock, Classical, Jazz)
Electric Bass Guitar
Mandolin (acoustic & electric)
Mando-Cello
Cittern
Irish Bouzouki
Balilaika
Keyboards
Percussion (most)
Vocal

I also dance. But, NOT my forte.
At one time, could do the Russian Kazatski (squat dance; try it sometime ).

I double on flute and soprano sax in jazz concerts, and have also recorded tracks for folksingers on alto flute (which has a lovely sound that stays under the vocal).
