He already ordered a bell from Schilke! I've also commissioned him to the "Roger Ingram" conversion which includes a custom lead pipe, custom bracing, Faddis style tuning slide, Valve alignment and full replate!
I had a comfort level after 5 minutes of speaking to him, it's great to know he play tests the heck out of the horn throughout the process...
6-7 weeks though!
Sorta pumped!

ALLCHOPS,
Sorry for your loss, but way to go making a silk purse out of a sow's ear . . . er, crushed bell . . . whatever, you get the idea. So you'll get your horn back better than new . . . .
I'm a great fan of customizing. In the right hands, it can really give you a lot for relatively little money spent.
Gosh, I'll have to see if my insurance would pay if I a) ran over the horns or b) slammed them in the door of the car or c) lost them in a small fire. I might have to buy a triple case and "forget" the horns behind the car . . . . or "accidentally" slam the car door on them (might be hard to get the door to crush all three bells at once . . . . ). I dunno about the fire, though . . . . still working on that one . . . . . <LOL>. _________________ royjohn

Looks great. Put it on the Marketplace...."For sale. S-42. Excellent player. Smooth valves. Slight cosmetic blemish on the bell. Doesn't affect playability..." _________________ Bach Strad Model 37 Bb ML (195xxx)

Ouch +1.
But: Steve Winans does GREAT work, he re-built the valves on my Strad, and they are flawless, best on ANY horn I've ever played / owned. Definitely worth the wait!

| Same happened to me. A R.B. leather triple gigbag, set on the ground as I was looking in my trunk. One of our trombone players (ya might know it)--pulled into the space next to me. As I looked away, he decided to park some place else and began to back out. As he cut his wheels, that's when it happened--my new Calicchio, flat as a pancake. And this was all Before the gig! I didn't stop hyperventilating for 2 hours. |

Ok, I know that accidents can and do happen. And I realize that few cases would withstand being run over by a car (except maybe the Torpedo). But once again, a gig bag is, to me, an accident waiting to happen. Sure, they are light and convenient, but I think they are also a repair tech'$ be$t friend.

Even cheap wodden crash case sometimes will get lucky. Hard light weight objects will often get pushed out of the way by a tire. On the other hand almost ZERO chance a soft gig bag will get pushed even on a hard surface. If the case does not get pushed then it get's ran over. The ploy-carbonate Pelican case's are the only ones I can see routinely surviving something like that.
I have a Pelican Rifle Transit Case and it rock's.....Every scar on it is one less scar on my rifle.
I had a Parker Hale Sniper Enfield in 7.62 NATO it came kited out in a metal transit case and their is no way that metal case could take what my Pelican could withstand. Just an idea though. Pelicans are not perfect because you have to make your own padding system since they do not sell case's already set up for trumpet or tripple instrument etc......
Truly sorry to hear about the accident!!! A traumatized horn is never a sight you want to witness! It is kind of like watching a car accident happen right before you eye's it is never a good thing to see. _________________ The only easy day was yesterday! |
