Several months ago, I was disappointed to find that only two libraries in the country held Dokshitser's method book, and neither participated in the Interlibrary Loan Program; I thought I was out in the cold on being able to view this book by any means other than purchasing it for $88. ( http://www.rkingmusic.com/shop/product_view.asp?storeID=51B06D0337FB4EEFA60DF44DBA11A149&menu=0&pr=811541&seg=1&c0=102&c1=515&c2=952&type=Band/Choir/Orchestra&category=Soloists%20-%20Brass&subcategory=%3Cb%3ETrumpet%3C/b%3E&chkMatchQ=all&SaveCategory=&txtQuickSearch=trumpet)
Trumpet method : integrated exercise system
Author: Dokshitser, Timofei, 1921-2005.; Thompson, Wendy
Publication: Paris : A. Leduc, 1994
More recently, fortunately, I found references to the earlier French version, and discovered that 11 libraries in the US hold this copy. Apparently at least one was willing to participate in the ILL program, because it has now arrived at my local library and I'm anxiously awaiting picking it up today. So, for everyone who may have looked for it, here's a possibility for you.

Yeah....curious about it! I have Dokshizer's 'Daily Drills and Studies' book.
I am not sure if this is the same, or another book...
'Daily Drills and Studies' is really interesting! Some very cool, unique studies and some very similar to traditional etudes, warm-ups. |

At this point, I can really only say that it would be nice to have the English version. Dokshitzer's technical explanations of proper technique, and descriptions of how to best use his method, appear to be quite detailed and informative, but I can't read French! It's obvious, though, from looking through the exercises that this is a no nonsense serious work intended for intermediate through advanced players. I suspect that even if you're already an accomplished player, the exercises offered in this method can help you become a really excellent player. As for the book's suitability for comeback players like myself, it looks like one of the best I've seen for gradually developing the fundamentals, especially a strong flexible embouchure.
Though there are some really difficult exercises here that I will very probably never be able to play, overall, it's a very impressive work. I'm looking forward to someday putting the English version on my music stand. _________________ WayneG

Also, if you want to research Dokshizer you'll find many different spellings of the name.
dbacon posted this in 2002 --
Dokchitzer-spelling from LeDuc Pub., Methode De Trompette
Dokschidzer-spelling from LeDuc Pub., Trumpet Method (English Translation, I have both.)
Dokshitser-Front of the CD, "The Best of Timofei Dokshitser," Marcophon.
Dokshitser-Back of the same CD.
Dokschitzer-"Trumpet Rhapsody." BMG CD.
Dokshizer-"Russian Treasures." ITG CD.
Dokshitser-"Concertpieces." Marcophon CD.
Dokshizer-"Trumpet Profiles." Louis Davidson, 1975.
and Atomlinson added --
How about Timofey Dokschidser from a Brass Bulletin article 1989 Issue 66 entitled "A story of the heart..." _________________ WayneG

Hi everyone, just a quick note that we are working with the Dokshizer estate to re-release his method books, etudes books, do some new translations, basically anything we can to get his work back in circulation again.
We started this week with his fantastic book "System of Composite Exercises." A few people here mentioned the Leduc Method, but in the opinion of his brother Vlad, this is the best version of his method. It was expanded, translated into English by his granddaughter, and holds the key to how he used to structure his routines to achieve his incredible level of playing. Over 100 pages in all.
Available in digital and print right here, it is definitely worth a look.

Just received a print copy. Gotta say, I think it is excellent. Have not played single pedals in awhile. Really am enjoying this book. Great service from this company.
Thanks,
Sam |
