Yea, Phil can play! He's got some chops. I would have to say he doesn't exactly have the chops that Maynard had... but he can definitely play and he has a different style than Maynard. Phil came and played the ram's horn at my church a year or so ago and it sounded great!!!!
PS - Where did you find out your information?

Phil is definitely one incredible player! He's got chops, and man can he improvise! Not a bad keyboardist either!
I owe a lot to Phil...I was saved at one of his concerts back in 1985!
So what is this "passing of the mantle?" Did Maynard mention something to this effect?
Just curious.

Doc Severinsen thinks Phil Driscoll is the most amazing trumpeter today, something to be said for that! _________________ Trumpet: Bach 180LR, 72 bell

Doc is just such a great guy...that in truth he mentioned that to all his friends that he gets together with.
What a compliment...smoooooze or not, that would make ANY MORTAL TRUMPET HEAD FEEL LIKE A MILLON BUCKS..comin' from the chops of the Doc nallthatjazz:) |

NOTHING IS SET IN STONE YET ON A DATE. MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT IT WILL HAPEN ON THE "LEFT" COAST, UNFORTUNATELY. IF I HEAR ANYTHING ELSE I'LL BE SURE TO POST.
PS: A TRUMPET PLAYER NEVER GIVES UP HIS/HER SOURCE.

I'm still not clear on what is meant by "passing the mantle!" Could you be a little more specific?
Thanks, and God bless! _________________ Dr. Michael Guevara

Phil Driscol playing Maynard's "Gospel John." Interesting, but Maynard will always be the "Top Cat!" _________________ C. G. Conn 60B Super Connstellation
