I'm looking into purchasing a good jazz horn before grad school. I've looked into harrelson but I really want a monette. However I do not want to break the bank. I was just curious if anyone had a price list of monette trumpets?
And yes I know there are other horns good for jazz but I really want the raw brass big fat horn look. As well as the dark jazzy sound. Monette a are cosmetically pleasing and apparently they sound like Jesus so I really want to look into that.

For used you can check with Thomson Music in Nebraska. They have five Monettes according to their website.

Have you played any of the Monette models?

If so, what did you like and was there anything you didn't care for?

I play an Ajna II and believe me an Adams A4 plays nothing like my Monette. And yes I have played a couple of A4s recently and they are not even close to a Monette. While I am on the A4 subject why would any trumpet manufacturer make a horn with such a paper thin bell design. You can actually feel the bell vibrate while you play, very annoying. I have a price list from 2012 for Monette instruments but if you call them they will happily email you one. I think most of their horns are above 10k now that is why I bought mine used from Thompson Music. There is a P7 on eBay right now, check it out.

If they sound like Jesus, you probably don't want that. According to the Bible, he didn't play trumpet. I am not sure if he played any other instruments, but definitely not trumpet. He did have an angel named Gabe who played trumpet and, apparently, he was pretty good, too.

The Buddha did play trumpet, though. He played while he was a prince and played at all the royal palace gatherings his family had before he left to pursue a life of contemplation, teaching and meditation. The model you would be looking for, with a big, fat, warm, jazz sound, is the Big Buddha Belly Boy Bb professional trumpet in brushed copper with gold plated accents. .468 bore, 5.5 bell. There is one for sale on craigslist right now.

I don't think there is a Monette in existence that "doesn't break the bank", so here's something you may be interested in...

I would love to do that but not sure how. I have recorded myself but only for self improvement. It sure can open your eyes on things, but that is for a whole different forum.

I owned an A4 SC very briefly; I bought it from a guy here on the TH in the marketplace. There were several issues with that purchase I won't get in to; in any case, I was thoroughly unimpressed, as were a number of my friends who tried it while I had it. In fact, owning the A4 and getting rid of it was the inspiration for my ordering the WT with a copper bell in my signature. By contrast, everyone who tries that horn loves it. And I still get compliments about how much better I sound on it.

I've never spent much time on Monette, so unfortunately I can't speak to that.

Well, on second thought, I do have one comment to make about that ...

... I'd have to convert all of the horns in my signature (ALL of them) to cash in order to finance the purchase of just one Monette.

No thanks.

Oh no, another Monette thread.

I saw a price list maybe 2 years old and the MF, XLT and LT were $9900 in raw brass, either in Bb or C. The heavier horns are higher as are the STC horns.

Several months ago, I bought my gold plate LTJ from a TH member. Love it. I can't imagine switching.

Mike Thompson is the guy for used Monettes. I watched his website regularly but found my horn here.

YMMV.

Damn. Nevermind. The A4 is absolutely the best horn I've ever played, and I've played a lot. Sorry for the recommendation.

I thought this guy wanted to know about Monette trumpet prices not trumpets that are made in another country. Sorry if you are offended over a little criticism but everyone is entitled to his opinion. All I know is A4s are not nearly as good as Monette trumpets and until you spend some time playing one you should not suggest a different horn when these posts are about prices on Monettes. I have been play testing many different brands of production model trumpets recently (including the Wild Thing which in my opinion played great (but still not a Monette))....but still haven't found anything that can compete. I think CB_93 should go ahead and look for that dream Monette, it will cost him but he will not be sorry he did.

I've played Joe's 993. It's a great horn in nice condition.
