Please vote tonight or tomorrow for Claude T. Smith for inclusion in the State of Missouri's Hall of Famous Missourians.
You do not need to be a Missouri resident to vote, and may use the Missouri House of Representatives website: www.house.mo.gov You'll see the instructions as to how to proceed.
Claude T. Smith [1931-1987] was born in Monroe City, Missouri, educated in Missouri and Kansas, taught in Missouri, and became a world-renowned composer of music for band, orchestra, solo, ensemble, and a number of vocal works. His first work of significant impact was 'Emperata Overture,' and was followed by several other notable compositions, including 'Flight,' the official march of the Smithsonain's Air and Space Museum in Washington. He also wrote works ['Fantasy for Trumpet,' 'Rondo for Trumpet'] for Doc Severinsen.
The Missouri Music Educators Association is spearheading efforts to have Claude included in this prestigious group. Final selections are determined by the Speaker of the House, but voting has been instituted this year, and the Speaker promises to strongly consider the top two 'vote getters.' Currently, Claude is in third place, so more votes are needed, and needed quickly.
Thanks for helping!
Other compositions: 'Eternal Father, Strong to Save,' 'Variations on a Hymn by Louis Bourgeios,' 'Variations on a Revolutionary War Hymn,' 'Declaration Overture,' 'Anthem for Winds and Percussion,' 'Citation' [Concert March], and many more _________________ PCC
