What do you all think about mouthpiece weight as compared to the horn weight?

I think it's very important to have a balance. The heavier the horn, the heavier the mouthpiece. I would never use a Bach megatone on a Yamaha Z horn. Also, I think that a regular mouthpiece is too light for most heavyweight horns. I think you need a good balance. Anyone else?

I agree with you somewhat. I wouldn't use a heavy mouthpiece with a lightweight horn. But, i wouldnt necessarily use a heavy mouthpice with a heavy horn. They tend to deaden the response even more. Don't get me wrong, there are times when using them would be appropriate (Wagner), but I think they tend to make the sound thick and heavy, rather dull. I own a yamaha mark II, i dont know how heavy you consider that, but i get the same projection and dark sound out of my regular weight schilke 14 as the heavyweight mouthpice that came with the trumpet.

I agree with you, loudog!
(I tried the heavy-on-light thing...)
