Anyone have suggestions for a good single (not combo) case for a Selmer Paris picc?

The typical suggestion is a cornet case, like a Pro Tec.

Is that the best way to go? Is there a better option(s) that wouldn't require me to sell a kidney??

For my piccolo case I use a small cooler (fits a bit more than a 6-pack) with old towels to make a lining.

Maybe I could get two of those -- one for the picc, one for some pilsner.

Take a look at some camera bags. I used to have a picc similar to the selmer and I had a leather camera bag that held it nicely and was well padded. It worked well as a gig bag as long as I was careful not to put things on top of it.

Be very careful. One of my friends just posted a photo of his Selmer Pic on Facebook after it fell off the back of his bicycle in a gig bag last week. It was a wreck.

I had the same problem.

I ended up buying second hand clarinet case, taking out the clarinet specific fillings, inserting some foam cut to shape and piece of velvet fabric glued on top.

Turned out really nice.

Any other suggestions, anyone?

A gent with whom I play is looking at buying one of these piccs and says he isn't so good with slicing foam in order to make a case out of something else. And I believe him Don't think either one of us believe a gig bag would be a great idea for him.

There's an Amati picc (ATR 383) with a shape similar to the Selmer picc and a corresponding case (Amati 6707). Amati mentions both picc and case under "ATR 383E" at:
http://www.amati.cz/en/brasswind-instruments/trumpets

Any idea where to see about one of these cases in the US? Amati hasn't responded to email about it.

Thanks for ideas!

Being an optimist, thought I would exhume this thread and see whether anyone has ideas about where to find a proper case.

I've just been using one side of a double case, but wouldn't mind finding a proper picc case -- would make life easier.

Thanks for any thoughts!

I just use my Yamaha Double case also, as does a pro friend of mine. Maybe try looking at some other Yamaha Cases built for pics.

If you *really* want protection, get a small pelican case with the "pick and pluck" (or whatever they call it) foam inside. Then hand-pick the outline of the picc from the foam so it fits yours perfectly.

The foam is already sliced into tiny rectangular pieces, you just grab them and break them off to hollow out the shape you want.

Downsides: heavier than most other cases, expensive, bulky relative to the size of its contents.

Upsides: Extremely strong case, hinges, lockable, the picc won't move around at all inside if you shape the cutout area properly. There should still be room inside for mouthpiece cutout areas, an extra leadpipe or two and one or two picc mutes if you need them.

For a lower cost solution, one of the protec cornet cases could work, although you would probably want to use either some soft towels and/or plastic bubble wrap to pad the picc and protect it as the cutout will be too large, especially vertically since it drops into a slot. You'd need this same sort of added protection if you tried to use the 2nd slot of a normal double trumpet case, like the ubiquitous Yamaha xeno cases.

Thought I would post again, just in case (no pun intended) anyone has a Selmer Paris picc case or knows someone who does.

Thanks for the good alternatives suggested above. I'm using a cornet case.

Thinking that some day, a proper "Selmer Paris" case will become available. Oui, vraiment! Thanks ----

Do you not have a case? I have two of them sitting in a closet that I've been meaning to sell for a couple of years now. Both hard cases, that I believe came with a couple of Selmer Piccs a long time ago. I'd be willing to part with them.
