I have a Getzen on loan at the min, it plays very well and has a great sound. The shop said it was a custom and it is a little odd. It has a tuning bell AND the normal tuning slide, which makes me suspect that this was either a poorly thought out design, or has been modified post production.

The stamp on the side says L B (presumably large bore), then SK52817. I've checked the serial number, which seems to date it at 1996 or so.

Do you chaps have any more details on this?

Jon.

I thought most tuning bell trumpets also had a slide. I know Schilkes are made that way.

These Getzens also were available with a tuneable bell so you cold change bells. I almost purchased one with both a standard and a dizzy bell way back in high school. It just didn't play as nicely as the horn I had at the time - a Selmer radial 99...

They all had tuning slides as well.

cheers

Andy

It may be a Getzen Renaissance. I've played one which was a large bore with a tuning bell. A good amount of tuning bell horns also have a regular tuning slide; Schilkes come to mind

As a player of tuningbell horns exclusively I will answer the question. tuningbells are great but if you need to quickly adjust the horns pitch in performance you seldom have the time to undo the screw mechanism on the track and on near the bell bow. make adjustment retighten both screws and have time to make your entrance. Tuning is not static and if you are playing with other instrument in soli or a trio in a march you are going to need to adjust tuning especially if the climate changes or another instrument is off. Enter the tuning slide quick on demand SMALL adjustments.

I would ask Mary Rima - info@getzen.com

She is extremely knowledgeable about all things Getzen - she helped my ID the manufacturer of the case of one horn (after telling me everything about the horn itself).

Gary.
