|
|
Hey all,
Anyone here ever try any of the Wallace Collection mutes? There are only three dealers in the US listed on the Wallace Collection website (www.wallacebrass.co.uk) so I thought I would ask here...the only two I am interested in are the aluminum/copper bottom straight and the adjustable cup cup mute....any feedback (as well as an idea as to pricing) is much appreciated!!
Cheers, |

I only have the blue (not metal) straight mute, which is great, nice soft sound, not strident of brittle at all. I got it at Dillons Music. _________________ "At the round earth's imagined corners, blow

I know this hasn't been active for a while but I figured I would chime in since there isn't much information about these mutes. I own the Wallace Dual Cup Mute (TWC-401S) which comes with both the cornet and trumpet cups. One is a V-shape and one is a bowl shape. It is a great sounding, flexible mute! I have use this to replace my Shastock Cup, Denis Wick, and Mic-A-Mute.
I also own the Wallace Aluminum/Copper Bottom Straight (TWC-302) and it sounds great! Free blowing with a great articulated sound. I used this to replace my Tom Crown Gemini copper bottom mute and this has a great sound from low F# on up.
The Wallace Harmon/Jazz Bubble Mute (TWC-501) is expensive but great. It includes a regular stem and a smaller stem with an adjustable resistance piece. This replaced my vintage original 1920's Harmon, Copper SwingMaster, and JoRal Bubble Mute.
The Studio Practice (TWC-M17) is nice and free blowing with an adjustable resistance piece as well! Intonation for me isn't as good as the other pieces but it's a practice mute - I haven't found any that have great intonation from Renuzit to Best Brass.
The intonation and blow of all of these mutes are great and they are the only ones I use now. I first tried them when I was playing Monette and have used on my Xeno C, Calicchio Bb 1sZ/2, and Yamaha 6330S Cornet.
I am also excited about getting one of their SoloTone mutes soon to see how it compares to my Shastock. Iain Muirhead also told me they are soon to release a new bucket mute that would be nice to try. These mutes are more expensive than some of your other options ($125 for the harmon mute above) but I have not regretted the purchase.
I use them for orchestra, brass band, concert band, big band, combo, and commercial recording sessions and have received compliments every time. _________________ Joshua Wagner

I have several of these mutes and all are quite well made and sound wonderful. Some are lighter and some are heavier both in sound and weight. The dual adjustable cup yields many different shades of colors.
The "V" shaped models are interesting and project well.

Hi guys,
For some reason, my antivirus software blocks the Wallace website?? Says it contains malware!
Could you tell me who the U.S. dealers are?
Thanks. |

The copper bottom straight mute is fantastic but heavy at the front. Needs put in firmly, but what a sound. What a price too... _________________ Bb - Scherzer 8218W, Schilke S22, Bach 43, Selmer 19A Balanced

The practice mute is great. Keeps the sound right down and has been used by some in brass band contests to keep volume down on muted parts _________________ https://payhip.com/sheetmusicplayalong |

Your antivirus blocks it for the right reason...
