Just got the new "The Sound of Alison Balsom" cd. Wonderful playing and musicality! Uses a coiled natural trumpet (with vent holes) as well as regular piccolo.

Nice booklet with good information and photos.

Could be her best album ever IMO.

Hi Bill! Pretty sure that is a "greatest hits" type cd of previously released tracks.

She does have a new one coming out in September though.

Hope all is well!

There's a couple of programmes on Alison Balsom on Sky arts channel right now, if you can get it.

You were correct...Her Sound the Trumpet CD is a compilation of previous recorded selections.

Still enjoyed it very much though.

I personally enjoy watching Alison Balsom play on youtube rather on listening to her on CD.

The CD Paris is a great listen, of the 14 tracks there are only two I don't care for. The last one, a vocal and one of the French title ones that I can't spell or pronounce. It's a bit jazzier than I expected.

I think she is a fabulous player. There is an iTunes live concert where she plays a Bb trumpet with a Harmon mute and then without a mute. Looks like an old copper horn but it could also be new. Anyone know what this horn is??

It said somewhere she primarily plays Bach 1.25 mouthpieces. Hard to believe anyone in this day and age would play a Stick Bach mouthpiece other than some older symphony players. I wonder if they are made specially for her.

But I am curious about the Bb trumpet I mention above. If anyone knows anything about it if appreciate any info.

Thank you

Gee, ya think?

Actually in that size range Bach mpcs are surprisingly good. Seems (most models of) Bach trumpets are built with playing something like that in mind.

Couldn't believe how incredible she sounded on this new album. Really cool for her to branch out from strictly classical playing too.
