I recently acquired a Sima. I have been going between the SC3 and the SC4 MP. I really like the rims on these. I know the MP is matched to the Sima, but I would like something with a deeper bowl. What could I get that meets the design parameters on the SC MP in a deeper bowl retaining the wider rim? If I could get that in a Heavy Top, that would suit me just fine.

Thanks for the input!

Friend of mine saw Jerry at ITG and got a SC3-S...sounds exactly
like what you are looking for. Check it out!

I looked up the specs on the SC3s.
"This is an exact copy of a standard SC3 but with a more shallow cup."

Please forgive me but I have to question the idea of limiting your search to Jerry's mouthpieces. I used a Jazz for a couple of years and tried some of Jerry's mouthpieces but ended up getting much better results with another maker's pieces. Mouthpiece preference is such a personal thing. I think it is more important that YOU match the mouthpiece than that a mouthpiece is supposed to match the horn. JMHO

I wasn't trying to limit my choices to Callet MP. I just know it's balanced to the Sima and I was hoping I could find something comparable to the balance of everything, but with a little deeper cup. My mentor suggested I get a little deeper cup to round out my sound in the lower register.

Absolutely! Call or email, and if you're in the area...stop by for a lesson.
He might cut you a deal especially if he makes you a piece.

I would call Jim New at Kanstul, the person who actually manufactures Jerry's mouthpieces.
Tell him you would like a Callet Super Chops 4 (or 3, which ever diameter you prefer) made on a heavier blank, (e.g., Schilke, Bach, etc.) with a deeper cup.
Depending on his current workload, I'll bet he'll get it to you in 2-3 weeks, for a very reasonable price.

That sounds like the perfect solution! Thanks, guys!

I have been using a sima with a sc6 for the past few years in a big band. I recently have been doing more church playing and have been looking to make the sound a little broader and not quite so penetrating. I found the warburton 4sv to be similar in cup width with a comfortable rim. I have been happy with the results so far. These are available occasionally on the marketplace and also on ebay. Much less $$ than going the custom route.

Thanks for the advice. I like the idea of the custom if it could be had for a good price. However, this is what I was looking for. Solutions from Sima owners who have tried and had good results with what is currently on the market.

Call Jerry and ask about his new SC-8. It's wider and deeper than an SC-4 so might be just what you need. I think he just received his first stock. Best, Kyle

Jerry = (718) 477-5803

I'll give him a call tomorrow. Thanks!
