I found these recordings of a radio show about Bud Herseth in another thread. There is a great quote towards the end of the first quarter. Generally they've been talking about sound and a little about articulation.
Quote: | When he starts a note, it's as if the sound absolutely jumps out of the horn |
Unfortunately the guy then goes on to talk about a huge volume of air going through the instrument, but hey, if everyone knew the secrets then we'd all be amazing players. _________________ UK-based professional trumpeter.

I'd prefer an assessment like the one Eddie Condon gave Bix -- "The sound came out like a girl saying yes." _________________ _________________

Listening to this further they go on to describe how Bud had very little interest in technique. He was very conscious of paralysis by analysis and as a result focused on all of the musical aspects of his playing. _________________ UK-based professional trumpeter.
