I found these recordings of a radio show about Bud Herseth in another thread. There is a great quote towards the end of the first quarter. Generally they've been talking about sound and a little about articulation.

Unfortunately the guy then goes on to talk about a huge volume of air going through the instrument, but hey, if everyone knew the secrets then we'd all be amazing players.

Listening to this further they go on to describe how Bud had very little interest in technique. He was very conscious of paralysis by analysis and as a result focused on all of the musical aspects of his playing.
