In lieu of all the poor threads on the forum I thought I'd post a video of three horns we just worked on in our shop.

I hope you enjoy it!

Nice playing as usual, Trent. Conn had a lot of stuff figured out a long time ago.

That is so cool. Three trumpets from the 1920s brought back to life. Sounds great, and sounds like they are real players too. Thanks for posting this video.

Trent mentions at the top of the video that they're "pre-model number Conns".

Oddly enough, they're all from 1924, according to Trent's commentary on the video. Conn didn't stamp model nos. on the leadpipes until a short time after that. (Thanks to Greenleaf for that info)

You can determine which models they are by measuring the bore size. From the year 1924, if the horn has a 1 1/2 Conn bore size (.458), it's likely a 26B (or possibly a 4B). If it has the 1 bore (.438), then it's a 22B.

I suppose I should have asked for the bore sizes. My error, but the statement "they are not stamped" doesn't necessarily imply that Trent didn't know the model numbers. Hence the question.

We actually figured out one of these three was a 24B but the others seem to be 22B's Coincidentally all three measured .440 not .438. The 24B is a laser beam!

Best,
T

Thanks for the info, Trent.

It's often hard to figure out what models these trumpets are if buying them without measuring the bore size (like buying on ebay). I just recently bought what turned out to be 26B. Great playing horn, similar to a 2B. It looked just like a 22B. I'm not disappointed, however! There are many more 22Bs than 26Bs.

The 24B Opera Grand was build for Ballroom gigs. Got a stinging tone to it but still varm (as we heard).
I have a 24B from 1926. Does your horn have the copper valve casing?
