|
|
So there was this 5-day big band tour of Arizona that was coming down from Vegas. They were scheduled to play Yuma, Tucson, Mesa, Flagstaff, and Sedona during the second week of September.

Rumor had it that it was going to be two full big bands, using a bunch of local AZ players as well as some Vegas guys. The money was pretty decent, and it would also include some mileage and gas money. But just to be safe, I ended up double-booking myself for that week in case it fell through. Which it did, because apparently a bunch of LA guys undercut us and agreed to come over and do it for no travel money. This would have been about a thousand-mile trek altogether, by the way.
And then 9 days before the whole thing started, it was canceled!

Is there anyone out there who was actually booked on this thing, or who has played it in the past? |

The day before it was canceled, I clicked on the "select your seat" link at the website for Mesa Arts Center, and they'd sold about 30 tickets for each show out of 550 seats in the room. But there had been no advertising whatsoever for it. |

I worked with this group on a prior Veterans Day event they promoted. They are absolutely terrible to work with. The person we primarily dealt with was named Gary and he made all kinds of promises he couldn't see through.
Since the event, he has also planned a Hawaiian concert series that was also cancelled. So I am not surprised in the least to see this series fall through. Just a friendly warning to any players who might be considering working with this group. |

The website for the event lists "Gary Vecchiarelli Productions", so perhaps that's him. _________________ 1987 Bach Strad 37

$4000 per musician for concerts in arizona and northern california.
basically they paid their own transportation, lodging and food from this.

Yes, that does not leave much left over. I just did a quick search and it looks like there are 30 musicians for his "battle" tour. That is a lot of money committed - over $100,000. Given what he has previously charged to attend his events ($20), I would recommend any musicians working with him get paid in advance of any events, especially considering the history of cancelled productions. |
