I have a Getzen Severinsen Eterna Trumpet and am thinking of getting an Eterna Cornet. Please give your comparison of the trumpet and cornet. Thanks

That's a pretty hard question to answer, it's like comparing apples to oranges. What I can tell you is if you like the valves on your Eterna trumpet you're going to be very happy with the valves on a Getzen cornet.

Getzen Eterna cornets have been a staple instrument in Salvation Army Bands and European Brass Bands for good reason, they play very well and have a great sound.

For budget minded trumpet players looking for an affordable shepherd's crook cornet that delivers quality and value we offer the Getzen 782 Eterna II cornet at a VERY REASONBLE price. We've sold the Eterna II cornets to players for use in brass bands and traditional Dixieland bands alike and they're very happy with them. Here's a link to Getzen's Eterna II cornet product page http://www.getzen.com/cornet/700/782.shtml

Give a call at 978-823-0580 during our regular store house M-F 10:00 am till 5:00 pm or Saturdays 10:00 till 2:00 Pm EST and we'll be happy to answer any questions you may have about Getzen cornets or trumpets we have available. We look forward to hearing from you!

Get the Eterna cornet for sure. I suggest the LB version only because that is the model that we use most frequently in brass band situations. Provides a bit more projection over the ML horn. And I would point out that the Eterna cornets are a great value as compared with a Besson Sovereign, for example.

You might also look at the Getzen 3850 custom. I love mine.

Cornet is a lot of fun to play. To me, it somehow seems easier to play than trumpet, especially if the music doesn't go way above the staff (trumpet works better for that, I think, although you can hear recordings of great cornet players playing well in the upper range.)

I've heard great things about the Eterna cornet. I saw Phil Smith perform a duet last Sunday playing on his Eterna cornet. He sounded great!

If you get a cornet, you should expect to spend some time finding a mouthpiece that works well for you, the cornet, and the way you want to sound. It might be the same rim diameter as your trumpet mpc, but you might prefer a deeper cup to get the sound you're after.

I have both a Getzen Eterna (Severinsen) trumpet AND an Eterna Cornet.

The cornet is an excellent instrument, well made, sounds great. Mine is a ML bore, but were I to buy one again I would buy a large bore instead.

I also had a student Yamaha cornet for awhile. For a student instrument it was excellent, but IMO not as nice as my Getzen.

If you need a cornet and are interested in a Getzen Eterna, you won't be disappointed.

Good luck.

I'm not the OP, but any thoughts on the Severinsen and the Eterna cornet compared to each other?

Finn...

They have a similar feel in terms of valve action but trying to compare a cornet to a trumpet other than manufacture quality and function is like trying to compare a french horn to an alto horn.

As a cornet, the Getzen is a highly regarded instrument. Because of the decline of popularity of cornets the field has become pretty narrow. A better question might be would I prefer a Getzen cornet over a Courtois? I've not play a Courtois, so I can't answer that.

Getzen, though not the most popular trumpet /cornet in the marketplace makes quality instruments. Both the cornet and trumpet are of the same quality. The rest is up to the player.
