Freddie Hubbard - The Things We Did Last Summer

This is one of my favorite recordings that Freddie ever
did. Decades ago I transcribed it and learned it. I wish
I could find the transcription to share. I've looked
for it but to no avail.

Enjoy,

This is also a long time favorite of mine. Thanks!

And don't miss Fats Navarro on same tune. He had a pretty good summer too!

Here is another version, great live version released a couple years ago I believe.

Wonderful band with Eddie Daniels, Roland Hanna, Richard Davis and Louis Hayes. Live in Europe 1969.

The entire record that this cut is from, The Hub Of Hubbard, is incredible. I learned so much vocabulary from his solo on Without A Song and I don't think I've ever heard a more masterful solo at probably around 350 BPM on Just One Of Those Things. The rhythm section is holding on for dear life but Freddie makes it sound like a walk through the park. One of the greatest jazz trumpet recordings of all time without question!!!!!!!!!

Did Freddie used his Calicchio or his Eterna Flugel horn on this tune ?

He sounds more flugel like for me. (i've always found his flugel playing trumpet like but more mellow than with his trumpet, i like this concept and sound)

I am thinking trumpet. It was recorded in 1969. I don't think he had the Calicchio then.

Best,
Mark

Freddie was playing his Conn 8B Artist trumpet and Couesnon flugelhorn on the Hub Of Hubbard.
