I know this has been discussed before, just wanted some new input.

I actually have found that it changes very slightly from mouthpiece to mouthpiece for me. If I play a Bach or Schilke mouthpiece, I seem to play down into the resonant belly of the pitch slightly. On my Monette(that I picked up again instead of th Artisan 1 1/2b I was playing, long story) I play right up to the edge of the resonant belly of the pitch, and everything is WAY Easier(for me) on the Monette.

It just got me thinking about asking where you guys play on the center of the pitch.

I have read mention of Herseth suggesting playing up to the center of pitch. Conversely I ave read mention of Adam Rapa suggests play down(I think) to pitch.

Whadayathinkguys?

I was in the resonant belly of the beast, in a seedy dive, on the wrong side of the tracks ...

Cue the Disney fog and maybe Humphrey Bogart?

Tired cliches don't do near as much good as an audio clip. Different horns settle in differently. Mpc selection certainly can affect that ...

I tend to play down into the center of the pitch. Things just feel closer and more stable for me that way. I've never thought about it being mouthpiece dependent, but that makes sense.

In case you hadn't seen it, here's the video where Adam Rapa talks about it:

Ah. Thanks.

Now, I don't think Herseth sounded small... lol
Why did Herseth advocate the opposite?(assuming her did) Perhaps the breadth is exchanged for protection?

There is this discussion which talks about playing up to the pitch for better projection.

You're going to feel that way on different mouthpieces for multiple reasons, those mouthpieces are vastly different, and the gap will also be different mouthpiece to mouthpiece really affecting how the center of pitch will feel to you.

I don't officially endorse any company, but this is a great informational video in terms of visually seeing how much the gap varies mouthpiece to mouthpiece. http://youtu.be/L97Yfnrsq3c?t=3m6s

My teacher was pretty emphatic that he always played to the dead center of the slot but that he always came at it from the top...if that makes sense.

For me, I tend to play higher and then bring it down which yields much more resonance.
