More juicy tidbits:
Inouye was *not* auto-advanced into the final round
Chris Martin backed out the day before but was advanced directly to finals.
Tom Rolfs was invited to finals, but declined

Interesting. Can't imagine Chris or Tom leaving their current positions. |

I was thinking the same thing. _________________ "We may not be changing the world dramatically, but we're improving it one note at a time."

Congrats to Mr. Inouye. Very well deserved. I only wish I could have heard Phil Smith play live before he retired. _________________ "May God have mercy on my enemies, because I won't." George S. Patton Jr.

Stomvi folks, that Facebook post just says "winner of the audition", which is very different than "has been offered and accepted the position." |

Me too. Next week they're playing "the Song of the Nightingale".

Because of the storm they changed the program and substituted "Firebird" for "the Song of the Nightingale". There were 2 rehearsals cancelled.

Recently heard Mark play Pines, really a gorgeous, beautifully played off-stage solo! Certainly a different Mark than I had heard ten years ago. Much more confidence, more power, bigger sound.
Also heard him play Alpine, Holy High Notes Batman! Both high D's were In your Face, loud as S**t, blow your frickin hair back loud! Mega confident playing! Can't say it's as pretty as Glenn F, but certainly very impressive. |

Sorry to see Mark leave SF, if that's true; but my memory of his playing in the SF Symphony will always be a song cycle composed by the conductor. It was Renee Fleming as soloist, a divine voice, incredibly difficult trumpet passages which Mark navigated beautifully, and forgettable music. _________________ "Strive for tone." -John Coppola

What was it called and who composed it? |

I would guess he is referring to Michael Tilson Thomas' "Poems of Emily Dickinson."
Premiered in 2001, I think.... |

I attended Mark Inouye's first performance last night playing Shostakovich Symphony #10. Excellent job...historic performance.

It just shows there are no teams in New York that are good at baseball. _________________ www.milanomusic.com |
