There is a longish thread now up in Fundamentals about anchor tonguing ( I do it myself except when multiple tonguing). I have the encyclopedia but I don't remember seeing anything about it there. What was Reinhardt's position on anchor tonguing?

He said if it works for you, do it. That was one of the things he had me try, but I couldn't really do it.

All the different tongue types is probably the one thing in the Encyclopedia that was the least clear to me upon my first read. Then again, that was at a time when the mechanics of my articulation was under revision. Studying under Dave Sheetz really made sense out of what I need to do! I never went back and tried to tease out all the various possibilities ...

So, in the encyclopedia I didn't find anchor tonguing. Maybe I read it wrong but what type is it?

Doc did not put it in his book because it was taught by Clarke before him, and he didn't want to take any credit - there was plenty in there of his own original ideas. In teaching, he called it "Clarke tonguing" and considered it to be a form of the Type 5 tongue because the standard Type 5 involved exactly the same anchored tip position in the gully, but only when holding a note. "Clarke" or "anchor" tonguing leaves the tip there all the time.

Am I right in thinking that "full type V" or something similar referred to Clarke tonguing?

I think he called it "The complete usage of the Type V tongue"

The term "anchor tongue" was not in use at that time,
