|
Hello all,
I would like to invite anyone interested to stop by Alexander Weimann's booth at the ITG conference in Columbus, OH next week. Alexander and I will be available Tuesday May 26 through Saturday May 30th during the exhibit open hours. There will be many Bb and C rotary trumpets available to try, including the very popular "Passion" models, as well as Eb trumpet and flugelhorns.
As always, you can find information about the models at:
Alexander Weimann Brass
On Facebook - Weimann Brass
Please come check out these fantastic instruments! It's a great opportunity to get your hands on these great horns! Feel free to message me if you have any specific questions.
Safe travels,
Aaron Norlund |

So, does the gold plating make a big difference, or are you guys just getting insanely good deals on them? _________________ "Music is like candy, you throw the (w)rappers away." |

I judged my horns by playing them. They were put together already. These are hand made instruments so while uniformly excellent, they are all slightly different.
The plating was coincidental. The biggest difference I have found in finishes is between raw and lacquer. |

Also, they are well priced for their genre. I prefer them to any rotary I've played . I've played a lot of them and owned several brands, these are hands down the best I've tried and owned. |

I got my Weimann C based on Poochie's and Aaron's recommendation. I could not be happier. |

Would you mind elaborating? Did you prefer one over the other? I'm thinking about ordering one and probably won't have the luxury of trying a bunch out.
Thanks,

The raw brass bells I've tried are incredibly responsive and light up quickly when pushed . Not a bad thing but I prefer to have that particular colour emerge at louder dynamics. I did play a raw brass horn that ended up going to the L.A> Philharmonic that I thought was fantastic and almost bought.
I found that the difference between silver and gold to be minimal and the biggest difference was going from raw brass to lacquer. I typically prefer the lacquer or metal finishes to raw brass. Hope that helps.
All this being said, I could have had Weimann send me any of his horns, in any finish and been happy. When you have many to choose from(I believe he had 27 horns at ITG) that's when subjectivity starts .
When the MET players bought our horns we each started with the Passion model but each one was a little different in regards to finishes, weight of valve block ,kranz or not ,leadpipe choice and fixed or detatchable bell. |

29 including mine!
All of the small bits that can be changed just work to accentuate and color the horn to complement individual player's preferences. For instance, the slightly heavier gauge no-kranz bell on my raw brass C trumpet puts the resistance feel of the horn exactly where I am comfortable, while also tempering the color in a similar way as a kranz would.
