Hi all,
did you know if in Europe there are some very good craftsman that produce good long cornet (american style).
I know that there are many cornets in Shepherd's crook configuration, but I'm interested to the traditional long cornet style
something like Bach 18137
unfortunately the price of Bach in Europe are insane ...
http://www.thomann.de/it/bach_181_kornett.htm
is more cheaper buy a handcraft instrument with better quality ...

I lived in Paris for many years and what you say about prices are very true. I can tell you that Andy Taylor makes an American Model cornet. I've never played it. But I've played lots of Taylor trumpets and they were all excellent. If I had the money, I'd buy this cornet. Go to his website and you'll see the horn there. Plus, Andy Taylor is a very nice person to deal with. I've spoken to him on a few occasions. I'd play the horn first, but I doubt you will be disappointed.
My apologies to all of the UK folks here who do not consider themselves European.

Hi,
I never try a Taylor trumpet/cornet. I know that they are very good instrument, but also very heavy and very expensive ...
I prefer light instrument ... but I will think about it

These three listings that Delano gives are all good. Especially that gold bell Bach. The Renolds Argenta is the long cornet most people want and the Cortois is a steal.
It's interesting that these listings seem to be from Germany. I can recall while living in France that there were many boutique horn makers in Germany. Perhaps you might look into trying to find those German horn makers.
But if I were in Europe is grab that Bach. It's almost too good to be true at that price. But I found a Globe Stamp Sov. In Paris for 800e.
I'd grab that Bach, Now!! _________________ Now:

It seems to be that the long cornet is a little bit out of fashion. From the big boys only Bach has two in the regular production. Kanstul has one.
Taylor can make everything, that's a boutique horn.
Of course there is the Wild Thing long cornet.
May be more, I didn't do a survey.
But the other side is that they are very cheap second hand.
And there are a lot of them in ebay, marketplaces and so on.
For me ebay.de is the best source because it's a big market with none EU importproblems |

There is a new handcraft instrument for less money than a Bach 181: the Lawler C7 cornet. It starts at 2200 dollars + shipment+ VAT . _________________ 2018 Bach 19043 (Kanstul CG3)

I don't know if you could find a Holton collegiate (504?) model over there but they sell really cheap over here so maybe shipping and all that other jazz it might be affordable, anyway they a fantastic cornets. Well built, great valves, nice sound and response, slots well and is as easy as pie to play. The only comparison I can give is against my 30's blessing and a yammi 4xxx shepards crook. I like my Holton wwaaaayyyyy wwaaaayyyyy more, I could be biased though _________________ a few different ones |
