Just gotta know????
"This morning...I started the day listening to JOE WILDER'S "The Pretty Sounds of Joe Wilder" here in the studio.
I awoke last night about 2:am. Before goin' to bed, I found an old magazine article about Joe?
I asked our Wilmer Wise a while back...if Joe was OK? Wilmer if you are lurking, did you find time to check on this wonderful ICON of brass and equally beatiful human being who much be inching up on his 90th birthday. I have heard numberous estimates as to his age but....
Joe is a tribute to the gifts of the human spirit and a beautiful example of a truly gift to our world.
HEY JOE? YOU OK???

bad-boy,
I was in New York in late August of '03 and spoke with Joe for about 2 hours. He is doing very well - still playing the horn and taking pictures (his favorite hobby). He is easily one of the kindest, sincerest, and gentlest men I have ever met. I hope to see him again soon!

Joe is still an active player. I had the pleasure of performing with him this past summer with the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra. During the first rehearsal, someone came looking for Joe saying his wife's been trying desperately to get ahold of him. It turns out an AP reporter called her about Joe's death, and she was worried sick, as he'd gone straight from the airport to rehearsal. We took a break, and I gave Joe my cell phone so he could assure his wife he was indeed alive.
He's a wonderful player, and, even better, a terrific gentleman.
