For those who just consider Chris Botti as a ballad player in the Kenny G game, here he is live with Bill Bruford/TOny Levin ''Upper extremities'' band.
I saw him a few months back and he was even more amazing. He played an Ab above high C.... With a split lip at the end of the song. I was in the front row. I was close to the youngest person there at the time (I was 15). he asked if I was a trumpet player too. It was cool... I'm pretty sure he did a run where he went around a double B. He also did the one handed G above high C thing. He was jumping all around the horn like it was nothing... _________________ 1965 Bach 37, Bach 236 D, Bach Artisan C, Schilke P5-4
Quite alright. That's a very nice flugel! _________________ Crazy Nate - Fine Yet Mellow Fellow

Someone has high notes on the brain...
I just found it incredible how good he sounded up there. I know trumpet playing is much more than high notes. _________________ 1965 Bach 37, Bach 236 D, Bach Artisan C, Schilke P5-4

Very good point; it's not always how high you can play but how well you can if and/or when you're playing high.
Not to derail a great thread from a great player (and Chris is great) but here's Arturo Sandoval playing "Isn't She Lovely". I've got this recording and am constantly amazed... At 1:55 check out the tone - and he's playing up there, too. What's that note at 2:18? At around 3:40, I think he's an octave above the rest of the band, not noticeably so - just an octave above!
At 5:00 Arturo's incredibly high - but again, such a full sound.
