That post title is a quote from the mom of a trumpet student. She decided that for ten minutes twice a day she would put her world on hold and refuse to grow up. You trumpet players know what I mean.

She wants to challenge her young son. Her aim is to encourage him to practice more. She asked him to teach her his weekly lesson, to explain it to her in his words. She asked me to coach her along with the basics of how to make a sound and develop that sound into music.

Just got a text: "Hi! Ouch! Four days out of five, twice a day. Almost ten minutes every time. I feel both very terrible and not so bad."

I responded: That is exactly correct! It is always like that. At every level. Trust me.

Dave Barry had a similar quote about his garage band -- "we used to suck real bad, but now we suck pretty good!"

Practice as much as you eat! If you eat 3x a day, then go practice 3x a day!
