Absolutely. No comparison. There is no way you can feel the vibrations in the area if you are not in the area. _________________ Crazy Nate - Fine Yet Mellow Fellow

I think he's asking about Skype vs the Facetime app (on Macs/Apple), not facetime as in in-person face time. Obviously, non-virtual actual face time is optimal, as you say - at least for music. No one would say differently.
Unfortunately, I can't help, as I haven't used Skype and haven't used Facetime for music stuff.

There were several times with one of my U.K. Students where Skype was acting up visually, so we switched to Facetime on those occasions. Audio seemed pretty comparable (both very good). I prefer Skype because the only Apple device I have is my iPhone and it's screen is a bit small for conducting lessons.
Best wishes,

It's a sad state of affairs in the world when someone says facetime, and your first thought is a computer program. _________________ Crazy Nate - Fine Yet Mellow Fellow

It wasn't my first thought, it was the context of the question.
Otherwise it's asking whether an internet app has the same audio quality as live. That's like asking if a picture of a beer tastes as good as an actual beer. That didn't seem a likely inquiry. _________________ LA Benge 3X Bb Trumpet

Google Hangout is worth a look too. My wife and I use it to stream our church choir practice since we live an hour away from our church and have had pretty good results. _________________ --Matt--

For Skype I use a Zoom H2n. I put it off to the right so my horn didn't point straight at it and I would turn to face it when talking.
I can't remember if I had to turn automatic gain control on or off, but whatever the default is didn't work good.

Well, my first thought was the common usage. If I had seen it written Facetime, I would consider it might be a product. Forgive my ignorance - didn't have the context. _________________ Crazy Nate - Fine Yet Mellow Fellow

Funny thing language. I thought of FaceTime App immediately because I've never heard it to be anything else. Face to face is the term I'm familiar with. _________________ "Nearly as good as I need to be. Not nearly as good as I want to be".

I still prefer a pitcher of beer over a picture of beer. It's so mediævel. _________________ '75 Bach Strad 180ML/37
