This might be a stupid question but what is the difference between the Sentbox and the Outbox in the messages section? Someone sent me a message and I replied and it's in the Outbox. Why isn't it in the Sentbox? Does the Outbox just mean they haven't read it yet?

Thx

In email the outbox means it hasn't been passed off from your computer to the server. It doesn't refer to whether or not the other person has read it or if they have downloaded it from the server.

Nope. If you can find a TH outbox on your computer I would love to know about it. Prior response was correct. Outbox is unread outgoing messages, sentbox have been read.

I challenge you to find a TH outbox anywhere but on a computer.

I just looked at my outbox for the first time and found messages to the moderators about spam over the last year. Other messages to them over the same period have been read.

The email paradigm had the outbox and sentbox to show the staging of email in the dial up world. Think of the outbox being your snail mail post box and the sent box as being the mailman.

I don't claim the same paradigm applies to phpBB.

Out of curiosity I went to the phpBB support forums and found that the PH's answer is the most used.

There was one post that stated the PM moved after the recipient downloaded it to his inbox.

Please note, I am not positing my answer was correct. I was just satisfying my curiosity.

I wonder if there is any chance that the phpBB support forum is still running a version of the software from 2005.
