Somehow this movie ended up on our Netflix queue and turned up in the mail. I'd never heard of it, but we said what the hell and put it in the DVD player.

Kind of a dark flick, about a press agent smearing an innocent man--a jazz guitarist-- to advance his own career (reminds me of the music business!). Swinging score by Elmer Bernstein (the opening big band tune is pretty cool, with the lead trumpet player working hard), with a brief appearance by Frank Rosolino and Conte Candoli in scene at a jazz club. I can't say I enjoyed the movie while I was watching it, due to the depressing subject matter, but I think it's one that will stay with me. The brief period when Rosolino and Conte are playing make it worth seeing if you haven't.

Film noir. I thought it was a very good film.

Phxhorn - I'm pretty sure there's a soundtrack recording, if you're interested.

Thanks for the review! I haven't seen it, nor even heard of it before this, and I'm really excited to watch it. I love noir, and how can you go wrong with an Elmer Bernstein score?
